Nolan Winebauer is just a working stiff in a dead-end government job at the Office of Administrative Oversight. The portrait of mediocrity. Music, mayhem, and murder ensue as the hapless rockers battle their devilish tormentor, Cankerburn. But there's a price to pay for reclaiming their humanity, as the Underlords of the Overworld discover that maybe the only thing worse than serving the forces of darkness is being damned to obscurity.
So begins a decades long quest for fame and fortune that takes the Underlords down some strange and sinister roads. Under the management of Fogweaver Entertainment, a label that traffics in dubious musical acts, the Underlords find themselves on tour with all manner of bizarre and ridiculous performers. But that's only the beginning. Battling to be hell's official house band, dabbling in the genre of Christian muscle rock, and traveling through time to replace a lost drummer are just a few of the Underlords' adventures as they learn that while you're never too old to rock and roll, sometimes it's safer to stay backstage.
